Dr. Joanna Diab
Licensed Clinical PsychologistI can describe my approach to therapy as one that is collaborative, eclectic, and individualized to the needs of my patients. I believe that the therapeutic alliance accounts for a large percentage of positive clinical outcomes, and building a safe and trusting relationship with my patients is a primary aim of my work. Within the relationship, we may explore thoughts, emotions, dreams, fantasies, fears and desires. By processing cognitive and emotional material, we may begin to recognize our conscious and unconscious patterns and dynamics, thereby gaining insight and ultimately improvements in relationships with self and others.
I conceptualize my cases through a psychodynamic/psychoanalytic lens; however, I integrate other therapeutic approaches into my work depending on the individual needs of my clients, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and other evidence-based and third-wave approaches.
When needed, I conduct psychological testing, including comprehensive psycho-educational batteries and neuropsychological assessments to better inform treatment and diagnosis.
I earned a Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) degree from GWU in August 2022 and completed my postdoctoral fellowship at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School. I am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New York. I am accepting individual clients for teletherapy at this time.
